The GREENBAUM Research Institute stands for research and development of digital projects that find sustainable and ecological answers to the challenges of our time. It is based on a specially developed IT infrastructure and a large network of companies and research institutions.
History of GREENBAUM Research Institute
The GREENBAUM Research Institute was founded by Mike Baumgart in 2016 and deals with digital projects in research and business. The Institute acts as an interface and has set itself the task of bringing its own innovations and those that have arisen in research into the economy as outsourced companies.
The Greenbaum Institute sees itself not only as a research institute, but also as a link to bring together different people and ideas from different fields. The Institute also acts as an incubator and always participates in outsourced companies to ensure compliance with the values. The focus is not on profit maximisation, but rather on innovative, future-oriented, ecological and sustainable solutions that help society better master the challenges of the future.
Be it through medical research projects, the improvement of transport infrastructure or digitised learning platforms. Greenbaum's own IT infrastructure serves as the basis for each project in order to get computing power flexibly and quickly to where it is needed. This means that the institute remains independent of third-party providers and can store data at the highest security level in the Cologne computer centre.
In the course of the educational work, publications in cooperation with master students, doctoral students and professors are aimed at, for example on the subject of digitisation in teaching.

Independent Cloud Infrastructure
The Greenbaum Cloud serves as an independent company and was already implemented in 2016. In addition to various ongoing customer projects (see references), it also serves as the infrastructure of the outsourced companies. Only in this way is it possible to access computing power in a cost-efficient and scalable manner. This is a unique selling proposition that creates a high degree of flexibility and independence, since high performance often has to be available at very specific points.
Advanced cycling economicy modells
All companies share the common goal of using digital technologies to solve social and ecological challenges. The focus is on people; the technologies developed should be tools that can be used to make the world a better place.

The Institute provides tools for various research areas /enlighteners / anchor point / interface / open source / developers of innovative digital ideas in close cooperation with other research institutions, as well as companies from industry and medicine. At present there are already four spin-off companies in participating form, the Greenbaum Cloud, Smart City, the Medical Research Center and the Greenbaum Exchange.
